Obituary for David Hardman
David V. Hardman, Sr., 75, died Tuesday May 22, 2012 at the Togus VA Hospice Unit. He was born June 6, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Verne and Esther Miller Hardman. He attended schools in Chicago and Oaklawn. He attended Lutheran Church when he was young. He joined the Coast Guard and served for ten years from Maine to Alaska.
He was chosen for the Presidential Patrol detail for President John F. Kennedy in Hyannis, MA in 1963. After his time with the Coast Guard, he worked for 26 years at Sears & Roebuck in Brunswick until he retired. David also worked for several local auto dealerships and lastly at Norm’s in Wiscasset.
He was known for his great sense of humor with family and friends. Even through his illness, he still put smiles on many faces. He was a history buff and loved model steam trains. He had his own trains from his childhood and spent many fun times with his grandchildren playing with the trains. He loved animals, especially Kelsey, his cocker spaniel. He was a family man and family always came first. On September 7, 2011, he and his wife Judith celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their children presented a special gift of sending them to their original honeymoon cottage in Jonesport. He was predeceased by two sons, Stephen Hardman and James Hardman; brother, Jack Hardman and sister-in-law, Geraldine Hardman.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
