I have one more memory which tells a lot about Lloyd's character and which taught me yet another lesson. He and I were out fishing on Sunset Pond, the two of us, and on one of my casting attempts I hooked his head! Yes, the barbed hook was actually embedded in his scalp! I was horrified, as you might imagine. My emotions tend to bubble over more than they should. Lloyd was very calm and understanding. He could have been angry or responded in some other negative way to me. Certainly, that would have been MY first comeback to such a situation. We went into shore, up to the house and somebody cut the hook out of his head. There must have been a little blood, but he never complained and he never brought up that incident again, in the many years that followed. I am the type that must constantly catch myself from bringing up an unpleasant past event. Reminding myself of Lloyd's reaction and subsequent behavior helps me to act better towards my loved ones, even if they don't recognize it!
