Obituary for Roland W. Chaples

Roland W. Chaples, 83, passed away peacefully at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport on Thursday December 13, 2012. He was born on March 29, 1929 in Rockland, ME the son of the late Wendall and Phyllis Dyer Chaples.

After school he joined the United States Navy where he served until he was honorably discharged. After serving his country he began his fishing career in New Bedford, MA. He was the captain of various scallop boats throughout his career until he retired at the age of 60. Throughout the fishing community he was known as a true gentleman.

In 1973 he and his Lorraine moved to Maine. The enjoyed spending their summers camping and would go to as many different camp grounds as they could spending each and every summer camping around the state. Eventually that found a spot on Eagle Lake where they would set up their fifth wheel camper for the season something they enjoyed doing for almost 25 years. When they were not camping the two could be found near any body of water that had fish as the two loved to cast lines together. He was also an avid deer hunter spending his falls in the woods. When he wasn’t outdoors you could probably find him watching sports on television especially if there was a hockey game on.

He loved his family and his friends and would try to spend as much time as he could with them. He adored his wife Lorraine, she was his world. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew him.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Lorraine Chaples.
