Obituary for Helen Davis Sublett (Davis)

Helen Crawford Davis Sublett, 96, passed away peacefully in Union, ME. She was born on July 10, 1916 in Port Clyde, ME the daughter of the late Sydney and Mary Knight Davis. She grew up and attended local schools and was a graduate of Rockland High School class of 1933.
She married her husband Carl on Aug 20, 1942.
Her first teaching job was as the teacher at the 1 room school house on Monhegan Island. This kicked off her career in education. She worked as a Special Education teacher in the Knoxville, TN school system and then became a home bound special education teacher which she continued to do until her retirement.
After retiring she continued to work by supporting her husband by doing the entire behind the scenes work for her husband’s art career. Something she was very fond of as the couple was able to spend a lot of time together.
She would visit Maine in the summer and bake pies all summer long. She was known to make a mean apple pie but her specialties were Berry Pies particularly Raspberry. She loved being in the kitchen and loved having people in her home. She was a fantastic cook and made sure that no one would ever leave her home hungry. Even if she did not have much she was able to make it work so that everyone would get their fill. She was a very generous and caring person and she taught many lessons to her children about the importance of these character traits. Her patience had a reputation of its own and she was always described as the most patient person anyone had met. She loved to write and receive letters as she knew the personal touches that each letter would carry.
She was a member of the Church Street Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN
She was predeceased by her loving husband Carl Sublett, A Sister, Two Brothers, A Step Brother, and a grandson Theo Clark Witham.
