Obituary for Eleanor F. Priestley (Tibbetts)

Eleanor F. Priestley, 88 died peacefully at the Sussman Hospice House On February 15, 2015 after a period of declining health. Eleanor was born on July 2nd, 1926 in Revere, Massachusetts to parents Elmer and Harriet (Morse) Tibbetts. She graduated from Stoneham High School class of 1944. She also went to the Floral School of Design in Boston, took home computer courses, as well as a refresher course in Floral Design at the Midcoast Community College. She always enjoyed being a homemaker.
Eleanor worked as a credit manager and sales clerk for NEWCO in Rockland, Also , she was a receptionist for the Maine Job Service in Rockland, employment and support counselor for the National Council on Aging, Inc. in Bangor, a hostess and gift shop clerk at Dave’s Restaurant, a clerical assistant trainee and front desk receptionist at Coastal Community Action Program.
Eleanor “eloped” with Harland “Rocky” Priestley Jr. on October 14th, 1944 in Seabrook, N.H. They later had an official wedding at the Congregational church in Stoneham, Mass. They also renewed their vows at the First Baptist church in St. George on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Eleanor was active in her community doing floral work for her church, as past president of the Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary, twice Past president of the Beta-Sigma-Phi sorority. She was also co-leader for local camp fire girls, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, founder and past president of the Walnut Hill Garden Club in N. Yarmouth, a den mother in Biddeford and assistant Bluebird leader in St. George. Eleanor had a FCC License to operate the St. George Fire Dept. radio.
Eleanors past-times were Dancing, Art’s and Crafts, floral designing, gardening, choral singing, designing and making jewelry, walking, swimming, reading, crossword puzzles. One of Eleanor and Rocky’s favorite past times were Saturday night dances at Echo Hill Lodge in St, George.
Eleanor is survived by her loyal daughter Brenda Brantley, Virginia Beach, VA, son Harland Priestley III of Belmont, ME, and Daughter Regina Priestley of St. George, Maine along with adopted Granddaughter Doreen Witham of Hope, Maine. Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years “Rocky” in May of 2010.
A memorial Service for Eleanor will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hall’s of Thomaston, 78 Main Stret, Thomaston, Maine. with Pastor Steve Maxwell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. George Ambulance Service. 3 School Street, St. George, Maine. 04860
