George Edward Millay
George Edward Millay, 90, of Liberty passed away August 24, 2014 at Waldo County General Hospital with his family at his side.
George was born in Liberty on June 12, 1924, the son of Earl and Gladys (Howes) Millay. He attended school in Liberty before joining the Army during World War II. He married Margaret Linscott on June 22, 1947.
George was a dairy farmer and worked with two of his sons until he retired. The farm remained in operation until the spring of 2013. He enjoyed working the earth and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren. For many years, George and Margaret had a farm exhibit at the Union Fair. Some years he would also enter 100 plates of various vegetable varieties. They proudly took home many ribbons.
George was a member of the Medomak Valley Grange for 66 years. He loved to play cards especially 83 and would more often than not defeat any of his appointments.
George enjoyed hunting and fishing and normally would tag a deer every season of his Adult Life!
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret, sons, Stanley and wife Deborah of Appleton, Alan and his wife Linda of Vassalboro, Douglas and wife Denise of Searsmont, daughter Norma and her husband Peter Quimby of Brooks; Grandchildren Laurie, Heidi, Danielle, Sarah, Holly, George, Erin, Adriane and Peter and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; Siblings Bertha Jackson, Clyde Millay, and Wilbur Millay. George was predeceased by a brother Arnold Millay, sisters Marguerite Grover and Arabelle Knight and grandson Jeremy Millay.
A time of visitation and rememberance will be held on Wednesday August 27, 2014 from 5 to 7 in the evening at Hall Funeral Home 949 Main St Waldoboro, ME. A celebration of life will be held at 11am on Thursday August 28, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Pine Grove cemetery in Appleton.
