Peter Thurston Allen died at his home in Union on Sunday, December 28, 2014, with his wife by his side.

Peter was born in the Blue Hill Hospital on July 7, 1935 the third child of R. Thurston Allen and Elizabeth Cummings Allen of Ellsworth. Peter attended schools in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953.

After graduation, he served two years in the United States Army, graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston and then returned home to operate Allen's Tydol Station. He married Carol Smith in 1958 and they lived in Ellsworth with their two children until 1969 when they moved to Union, Maine. Peter operated Coastal Blueberry Company in Union, owned and operated The Cutting Allen Christmas Tree Company, and from 1978 to 1984, he owned Payson Allen Tractor Company in Union.

Peter served on the board of the Camden National Bank for ten years; was a member of Anah Temple for over fifty years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol S. Allen, of Union, his son, Brian P. Allen and his partner, Stephen Underwood of Scarborough, his daughter, Petrea Allen of Rockland, a sister, Lorraine Saunders and her husband, Joe, of Southwest Harbor, a brother, Roy Allen, and his wife, Ardis of Ellsworth. He is also survived by special family friends, Stephen Wallace, Darrell Moody, and David Smith.

Burial will be in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Union. There will be no visiting hours or service at this time.
