Obituary for Randy Raymond

Randy Raymond
Randy Scott Raymond passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his business in Waldoboro, Maine. He was born on February 15, 1959 in Hartland, Maine, a son of Lawrence W. and Marilyn (Ruland) Raymond, Sr. He attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1978. He married the love of his life, Sharon Marie Hart, on April 26, 1980 and was a loving and devoted husband for almost 35 years.
Randy was a hard worker and while in High School he worked for his Aunt Jeannie at Pizza by Norm in Waterville. After graduation, he was the manager of the Waterville True Value for several years and then became the manager of a Meat Locker Plant/Deerskin Shop in Waldoboro. In 1987, he opened his own business, the Movie Shoppe, in Waldoboro. Later he expanded his business to include three businesses under one roof called the Movie Pizza Shoppe offering movie rentals, pizza and sandwiches, and the Ice Cream Korner. His business was featured in Down East Magazine as one of the top five pizza establishments in Maine. Randy was well known for his fabulous food and customers traveled great distances to enjoy it, but primarily they came to see Randy and share a laugh. Dogs were welcome, too, and always received a treat.
Randy was an extraordinary businessman and was very successful at everything he attempted. He took great pride in the appearance of his business all year long, but especially for holidays. In December, a picture of the Shoppe with all its lights and decorations was featured in the Lincoln County News.
Randy was a member of the Mid-Coast Shrine Club and participated in parades as a chipmunk for the Kora Funsters Unit. He became a Mason at King Solomon’s Lodge #61 of Waldoboro in June, 1994 and served as Master of the Lodge in 2002 and 2003. He was Past District Education Representative for the 9th Masonic District and was a member of the Past Masters Club and Scottish Rite Mason. Currently he was serving on the M.E.A.L.S committee for the Grand Lodge of Maine, as well as serving as the District Deputy Grand Master for the 9th Masonic District, a position he also held in 2007 and 2008. Randy loved being a Mason and everything their brotherhood represents.
Though from Fairfield, Randy was very involved in Waldoboro activities and was an important member of the community. He touched many lives through sponsoring the Panthers Little League Baseball Team for more than twenty years, assisting the Waldoboro Fireman’s Association frequently, and serving as a member of the Waldoboro Business Association. Years ago he sponsored a men’s softball team named the Movie Shoppe Pirates and enjoyed attending all the games. Also, he generously donated to the local schools and youth sports teams.
Randy was a kind, generous, and amazing person with an infectious laugh who would help anyone in need and was a friend to everyone he met. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he was loved and respected by all who knew him. He loved nature and being outdoor, especially boating on Great Pond in the Belgrade Lakes. He was a lover of all animals and birds, especially red cardinals, which were his favorites. He enjoyed creating perennial flower gardens at home and at the Shoppe. He was a Patriots fan and Tom Brady was his favorite player. He also rooted for the Boston Red Sox.
Our lives are forever saddened, but Randy will live on in our hearts always.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, and his beloved dog Kyllee; his sister Kristy Palmer and husband Bruce of Manchester, NH; his brother Lawrence Raymond, Jr and finance Lisa Chase of Plymouth, ME; his half-sister Holly Raymond; his brothers-in-law Norman Hart and wife Trudy of Canaan, ME and Galen Hart and wife Susan of Pittsfield, ME; his aunt Doris Dean and husband Robert of Florida; his uncle Bill Raymond of Florida; several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews; and many cousins. He is also survived by special friends, Mark Wallace, Billy Maxwell, Andrew Field, and many more.
He was predeceased by his parents and half-brother Benjamin Raymond.
Thank you to the Waldoboro Police and Rescue and Fire Departments for their efforts to assist Randy.
A Memorial Service celebrating Randy’s life will be held Saturday, January 17th at 1:00 P.M. at Broad Bay Congregational United Church of Christ in Waldoboro, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy’s memory may be made to a favorite charity. A reception will follow the service at the Waldoboro Grange, King Solomon Lodge.
The staff of Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine is caring for the family. You are invited to share your condolences with the Raymond family by visiting their Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com
