Click here to view all obituariesWe got to know Dick back in the early 90's at the Wiscasset Airport. Back then Lisa worked as a dispatcher and Steve a flight instructor for Downeaast Flying Service. Dick was renting one of the Cessnas and would often stop after work and talk flying. Lisa always enjoyed the vists from Dick (since she was a new pilot) and was interested in learning whatever she could from a fellow pilot. When Dick came into the office it was always a pleasant reprieve especially on those hectic days. He was always upbeat and funny and we would joke about his interesting landings on a windy day at Wiscasset-always a topic of converstaion for all of us. Dick had discovered that an hour of flying or simply "hangar flying" was the best therapy to alleviate all the pressures that his job created.
Dick managed to include in his job descrption at BRBY that of being a company pilot flying the Cessna 206 and Cessna 208 Caravan all equipped with amphibious floats. Few pilots rise to the skill level that Dick achieved in operating these aircraft.Summer would find him flying off the waters of Southport's Ebenecook Harbor into one of Maine's 6000 ponds and lakes. Winter would relocate him to Florida where he would ferry passangersand supplies to Sampson Cay in the Bahamas. Quite a challange when you consider the weather, wind, seas and currents that affect these bodies of water. His infectious zeal for flying will stay with us forever. Fly on Dick-you will be missed.
