Obituary for Mildred Butler (Graves)

Mildred  Butler (Graves)
Mildred Louise Butler, 100, died March 16, 2015 at her home in Warren. Mildred was the keeper of the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Warren. She was awarded the cane in 2008. She was born November 4, 1914 in South Thomaston to Albert and Hanna (Haskell) Graves. She grew up in South Thomaston and started working at the age of 14.

She worked at Green Island Canning Company for many years and was very proud of the fact that she could fix and maintain the packing machines. She was a proud homemaker who canned vegetables, and sewed her family’s clothes. She was very handy and enjoyed crafting, ceramics, crocheting and knitting.

She was a lifetime member of the Grace Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and the Grange. She was also a member of M.E.T. (Meet,Eat, and Talk) Club for many years. She was the Grand Marshall of the Warren Day Parade. She was predeceased by her parents; husband of 39 years, Rollo A. Butler;Grandson, Robert Rollo Watts; five sisters, two brothers, and one great,great grandchild.

She is survived by her two daughters, Roma Shaw of Gray
Glenda Dickinson of Warren

11 great grandchildren, 7 great,great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 20th along with an Eastern Star memorial program presented by Grace Chapter followed by a service to celebrate Mildred’s life at the West Rockport Baptist Church, 545 Park Street in Rockport. Should friends desire, contributions in Mildred’s memory may be made to the West Rockport Baptist Church,P.O. Box 221,Rockport 04865. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery in Thomaston in the Spring.
