Randy and I go back to grade school and continued through our adult lives. I just learned today that he had passed away. I went to his old farm house a few years ago, anf found it boarded up.
I have too many memories to turn into stories, since we go back so far. At Peck School, where we went to grade school and where his mother taught phys ed, Randy had one of the first serious relationships among our peers, and it was Harty who contacted me about his passing. As eigth graders, we walked down from thsi home in the country to the nearest big road, then hitch hike into Morristown to roam around town, probably try to pick up girls. Sometimes, we took a bus into NYC, and roamed a little around there as well. Big city streets, big city lights. I was 14 when Randy first "turned me on" as we used to say. Man, a lfe time ago I guess.
Life in Waldoboro was certainly rich, but I could tell, not always easy. Work was hard on the body, but art and sculpture and love for people, out of doors and the magic plant got him through those harder times. Family too.
Randy and I shared spritual interests as we got older. Both of us had been to India along the way, and had plenty of stories to tell about that. I sincerly hope, and somehow believe, his love for the spitiual elements of his life helped him enter into the light of the infinite. Bless up brother.
