Emmalin Welch was my mother. Full of spunk and more energetic than any other two or three people, Mom was her own woman, setting an example of independence and intelligence for all of her children. She was still mowing lawns and scraping paint well into her mid-80s. By her late 80s, dementia had begun to rob her of her memory and even to alter her personality. To the end, she remembered all of her children, grandchildren, and special pets and continued to do crossword puzzles. She was truly a member of "the Greatest Generation."
