Obituary for Robert Alden Pease

Robert Alden Pease

Robert Alden Pease of Thomaston, Maine died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine.

Robert was born in Natick, Massachusetts on March 20, 1927, the only child of Carl Maurice Pease and Martha Louise (Clough) Pease. He married Claudia Camille Wigglesworth on March 24, 1951.

Robert graduated from Natick High School where he was on the football team. He had worked from the time he was thirteen, enlisted in the State Guard at fifteen and in the United States Navy at seventeen where he served for three years. In his senior year at Natick High School, the school board issued a policy whereby seniors in good academic standing could enlist in the service and still receive their diploma. A good deal of his naval service was spent on the U.S.S. President Jackson, a troop transport ship, which docked in various countries, some of which included China, Japan, the Philippines, and Guam.

Following his discharge from the Navy, he developed a renewed interest in education and after completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Suffolk University, he entered Simmons College where he received a Master of Science degree in psychiatric social work, later going on to complete a degree in the Community Psychiatry Program at Harvard University.

Robert had a long, distinguished career as a civilian employee for the Department of Army in their Mental Health Program at Fort Devens, Massachusetts and its satellite NIKE bases, receiving numerous awards for outstanding performance and rose to the position of Chief of Service, the only civilian to do so in the Army.

Robert is survived by his wife, Claudia, of almost 60 years, and their five children; Martha Yvonne (Pease) Gale and her husband, Kennison Nye Gale, Jr., of Watertown, MA, Sheldon Frederick Pease, his wife, Paula Enid (Tabor), and their daughter, Emily Camille, of Altamonte Springs, FL, Robert Alden Pease, Jr., his wife Susan Mary (Hay), and their sons, Alexander Robert and Bradford Alden of Bristol and Providence, RI, Lisa Beth Pease of Natick, MA, and Matthew James Pease, his wife Leslie Anne (McLaughlin), and their daughters, Meredith Catherine and Laura Madeline of Amherst, NH.

A 'Gathering' will be held to celebrate Robert's life with his families and friends at the Hall & Bibber Funeral Home at 78 Main Street, Thomaston, ME on January 14, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Burial will be in the Clough/Pease family plot at the North Natick Cemetery on Route 27/North Main Street, Natick, MA on January 22, 2011 at noon (storm date: 1/23/2011).

The family encourages memorial donations to The Neuropathy Association®,Inc.
60 E. 42nd Street, Suite # 942, New York, N.Y. 10165 or to Paralized Veterans of America, Donation Processing Center 7 Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, NH 03086
