Condolence: Nearing the first anniversary of John's passing, we want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Condolence: Dear Sandy - I was so very sad to hear of John's passing. I got right into the car and drove down Walworth Ave. and waved as I passed by your old house. As a very young female joining Needham & Grohmann he was so supportive….and such a positive, fun man. I have many fond memories of him - and of you - at your New Years day parties.
My children, and now theirs, still cherish the baby books you gifted to Amory. I think of you both every time we read them.
Please know that you, Laura and Lodge are in my thoughts.

Condolence: Dear Sandy,

We were so distressed to hear of John's death. He was at the heart of all Dartmouth activities for all of our college get-togethers.

We fondly remember all those times over the years from when we were young and as we all aged together. Our fond thoughts are with you.

Both of you were favorites, and we hope you will continue to join us as time goes forward.

Condolence: Hi John- This proves for certain that not only the good die young. A generous life so well lived with warmth and humor leaves in its wake thousands who have benefited from your presence and we are fortunate to number among them. With Sandy that same rare spark has been passed along to your kids and grandkids- a most wonderful legacy. Passing peacefully in your sleep- tremendous!

Condolence: What a lovely, gentle, man. I was lucky enough to get to know John in the 1990s when I was the Cornell Hotel School's Dir. Alumni Affairs, and not only did we bond over our mutual Hotel School connection, but also over our somewhat similar roles at 2 Ivy League schools. He reminded me very much of my own father, who I lost this past fall. Kind, smart, polite, funny with a lot to share if you asked him. My sympathies go out to the rest of the family- you've lost a wonderful guy.

Condolence: Dear Sandy,

I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. I loved his wonderful obituary and was happy to see he made it through another St. Patrick's Day. I always remember our celebrations on March 17 with the wonderful food, drink and fun that went along with the Gillespie clan. May John's memory be a blessing to you and all the family. His was a life well lived.

With great affection, Jane

Condolence: Dear Sandy:

You have been much in our thoughts since the regrettable and untimely departure of John, and we hope with the passage of time the many rewarding and pleasant memories you and your family have will help to bring you some measure of comfort and sustain you all in the months and years ahead.

On occasions like this, I often go back and read 'Reflections' and 'More Reflections' which is helpful in recalling the many wonderful times we had with you and John over the years - they were special and the very best of times.

John was a class stalwart who, as I said in 'More Reflections', wrote the manual on how to organize college reunions and mini-reunions - no one ever did a better job, and thankfully he always had his Sandy at his side.

John will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. We hope at some point in time we may again cross paths with you, but in the meantime, we send our warmest regards and best wishes to you and your family as you all continue your journeys.

Fondly, Jane and Bill

Condolence: Wendy & I were saddened to read the news of John's passing, and our thoughts are with you, Sandy, as well as Laura & John. What great memories we carry - first of working with John out of the alumni office, then as near roommates in Blunt. Many the day when I crossed over to his office and sat while listening to him spin tales and join me in bemoaning the disappearance of the classic Dartmouth family members we both worked with. A most wonderful gentleman whom we were proud to call a friend & colleague.

Condolence: I did not know John. And, although I never met him, he had a huge impact on my life. You see, John was once the Director of the Parents and Grandparents Fund at Dartmouth College and I simply inherited his former job. I am the current director. He left a lasting legacy not only at Dartmouth, but in the fundraising world as well. People still talk about him. Even last week at the Northeast Annual Giving Conference at Pace University in New York, people asked about him. They remembered him fondly. They smiled when they mentioned his name. He was obviously a legend. I wish to send my condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. He will be missed.
